Botany of Desire?
I'm thinking of proposing Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan as our next book. Here's a link to a New York Times review. If anyone has read it or hates the idea, speak soon or tough shit.
NYT requires a log-in, so if you don't work your way around that you can Google a million other reviews for this book.
It sounds great to me. I read some discussion of this same topic in college, which included some writings by Noam Chomsky, if I remember. But then again that was before the turn of the century...
Well, it's not the kind of thing that would have jumped out at me. But I guess that's the value of a book club - expands your horizons. Or in this case I should say, "makes you grow".
